Cast Iron Teapot (Tetsubin) Usage Guide & Maintenance Tips

When using a cast iron teapot, please inject hot water first to preheat, then dump the hot water, and then place the tea leaves into the attached stainless steel filter. Pour boiling water into the tea leaves, soak for 3 to 5 minutes, and then remove the filter. Never heat a cast iron teapot with an enamel liner directly on the stove; use a separate kettle to boil water. When cleaning, only use warm water and hand washing. Do not use soap. Be sure to dry or dry thoroughly after cleaning to prevent rust.

Guide for using cast iron teapot (Tetsubin)

  • Preheating: Pour boiling water into the empty teapot, gently shake it to heat the teapot body evenly, and then pour off the hot water to warm the cast iron teapot body.
  • Tea pouring: Put the bulk tea leaves into the stainless steel strainer basket that comes with the pot.
  • Brewing: Pour hot water into the teapot (please adjust the water temperature according to the type of tea you brew). Cover the teapot and soak for 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Serving tea: After the tea soup is brewed, please take out the filter basket immediately to avoid over-soaking of the tea leaves and the tea soup becomes too thick or astringent.
  • Heat preservation: During the tea serving process, you can use a candle to heat the base or heat insulation pad to keep the teapot warm.

Important Tips and Maintenance Notes

  • Enamel liner warning: Most cast iron teapots used for viewing or making tea have an enamel layer on the inside. If it is placed directly on a stove and heated, it may cause the enamel layer to crack.
  • Cleaning: Just rinse with warm water. Never use soap, detergent or rough scrubbing tools for cleaning.
  • Drying: Remove the lid after cleaning and allow the teapot to air dry naturally until completely dry to prevent rust.
  • Storage: Please store the teapot in a dry and ventilated place; do not cover the lid when storing to maintain air circulation.
  • Rust treatment: If rust appears on the body of the teapot, please do not panic. These rust is harmless to the human body. You can use a soft brush to dip a small amount of green tea residue for scrubbing, and then dry thoroughly.
  • Direct burning of stoves is prohibited: Unless the product is clearly labeled as a "pig iron kettle"(i.e., a pure iron kettle without liner), once a cast iron teapot with an enamel liner is placed directly on the fire to be heated, the liner will crack and damage.
